The Center for Community Transportation, which includes Ithaca Carshare and Bike Walk Tompkins, is a signatory on Atlanta-based Asian Americans Advancing Justice’s statement titled “A Community-Centered Response to Violence Against Asian American Communities.”
Ithaca Carshare membership reflects a high number of community members who identify as Asian American, Asian, or Southeast Asian. This is higher than the county demographic and accounts for a core population making up our membership. We mention this to say that discrimination and violence against the AAPI community anywhere affects the sense of safety of people in our local community as well. As Bike Walk Tompkins promotes safe movement through public spaces, we intend this to mean safety for people of all demographics and particularly those whose safety has not been guaranteed due to the color of their skin, ethnicity, or gender identity. We condemn the violent attacks in Atlanta, GA and violence everywhere against historically marginalized people.

Consider joining this small effort of solidarity, as an individual or organization, to speak out against violence and systemic racism and speak for safe, just, and respectful communities.
