Ithaca Carshare has reached member 5000. That's quite a long way from their humble beginnings in 2008 with six cars and two staff members. Now, over 1,400 members have access to 25 cars in Ithaca and travel 250,000 miles annually.In 2015, Ithaca Carshare has expanded their program serving local organizations and businesses, and deepened partnerships with local organizations like the Cayuga Waterfront Trail and Bike Walk Tompkins. Ithaca Carshare members tend to drive less than the average car owner. We estimate that through carsharing, our members avoid around 200 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year! Even so, our fleet's carbon footprint is 70-90 metric tons per year. In recognition of this impact, we are giving back to our community by participating in the Finger Lakes Climate Fund "Seal The Cracks" campaign.
